Basics (Fighting)…

Went in to noon class today expecting to work on Basics the entire time. We got started and boy oh boy do I need the work… Sensei interrupted class to test another student. We lined up and fought him, 5 fights in a row and we fought him kind of hard. He kept at it and got his Blue Belt today. Pretty cool to be a part of that.

Still need to go back and work on basics more…

Basics: We started with 3x of each basic kicks then a really fast round of basics with everyone in class. We then broke of into groups and I staid in the Brown Belt group to work on crazy weird Basics combos all class. I must have done over 100 push ups tonight all told. Getting ready to be thrashed with Basics on my test here next month… 🙁

Basics; We had a great basics class today. We did warmup to 3x of each kick. Then went right into a 2:00 round of basics being called, then an 8:00 one. We then did a 4:00 round and another misc round of testing out crazy combos. I did pretty well overall today with my approach. Felt pretty good to do this class.

Taught class tonight. Adult class: Basics. We did a good warm up then 3x kicks each and the front + ½ round combo drill. Then we did all stances10x for :20 each up and down the floor. People started to fall out at this point a bit. Then we drilled the first set of basics 10x up and down the floor each. We finished up with Op Cha Gi and Yop Cha Gi backwards and forwards so they could work on kicking to the side or straight on and moving. Good class and everyone had good energy up until the end. Very strong class of students.

Brown & Blackbelt class: Tonight’s class was difficult. Made extra difficult from just going through the previous hour for sure, but that really helped set the stage in a really great way.

We started off the same as the first hour. 30x reps of dumb bell work: curls, french curls, military press then spread leg roman deadlifts. Then the same prescription as before. All of us together had to move all the Kettle Bells, Dumb Bells and Medicine Balls into the 4×5 ring inside 10 minutes. I’m not really sure the Blackbelts needed much motivation, after all they’re Blackbelts and have it figured out. But I was very pleased to be moving much easier than some of them after 5 minutes in. The harder it got the more I seemed to be able to dig. That makes me feel good.

After that, we got in a line and performed what we knew of each of our newest Kata. I had Saiunchin… I don’t feel like I did it justice, but I dug and put all I had left into it. I can say that honestly. I felt pretty good after the class was through knowing I used what I had inside to power through and not to just survive it.

Very tough and very rewarding evening. These are the types of things that help you truly grow and gain the next level a little bit at a time. Brilliant class(es) tonight.
