I taught class today. We had a full range of students from 6th all the way to 1st Queue. We warmed up by doing 3x rounds of 5 pushups, 10 squats & 5 medball squats. Then we drilled Kata; Taigo 1 (feet only), Taigo 1, Taigo 2, Taigo 3 & Pinan 1. Then we did Bo 1 and Bo 2. I had them really pushing to get through the Kata so we could show one student who has a rank test coming up soon how it would feel to drill them back to back all at once. Good class.
On my way out of class, out of nowhere, I had a bird fly by overhead and take a crap right on my head… it must have been like 100 feet in the air because it felt like someone dropped a brick on my head. Crazy…

Brown & Blackbelt class. We started off drilling our basic Kata: Taigo 1 feet only, Taigo 1 hands and feet, Taigo 2, Taigo 3 and Pinan 1. Then we worked on the footwork only to Naihanchin. I really like the hip movement and swivel action we were shown for Naihanchin tonight.
Then we split off and started on Kanku. We started off being asked if we’ve been practicing, I had to honestly answer “no”. Sensei wasn’t too happy about that but it is what it is. I need to just work on it so we can get through learning the Kata. That’s on me…

Brown & Blackbelt class. We started by running 12 laps, then drilled 5th set of self defense: Elbow Form, Spinning Elbow, Ball Bat Attack, Knife Attack & Full Nelson a few times, slow then fast then again and again.
We then broke off and learned more of Konku until we soaked our Gi’s.

Double class: Brown + Blackbelt class. Drilled Weapons.
Bo strikes, Bo 1 and Bo 2.
Tonfa strikes, Tonfa 1
Then drilled Self Defense 2nd, 3rd, 4th sets.
Worked Giin
Started to learn Konku
Notes:
The first class was pretty standards, if not drill heavy. We got straight to work with no real exercise, which is fine with me. Most of us were at the same point save for a couple of Blue belts. It had clearly been a month since I had drilled weapons, the sweat was pouring 20 minutes in.
The second class we started off with a few rounds of drilling Self defense in the air for exercise, which is a cool way to warm up. If you’re drilling correctly it’s a great cardio start up. Then went into Giin, which is also great for stamina, especially this late in class. Konku is interesting, starting off with the sunrise and sunset metaphor.
Sempai was getting instructions for her Blackbelt test while we were in class. It looked to take the entire class as she and Sensei walked around the dojo making lists of things to do and clean. I have to admit I got a little nervous already just watching that. Also learned from Mr. Bouknight that Tuna makes a bad choice for food for your BB rank test.

Ran through all our Kata and then self defense then all the Kata again. Long morning full of some good work. Left feeling pretty good about it.
