Brown & Blackbelt class. Kata. We did a warm up holding 3# weights and drilling Taigo 1, 2, & 3. Then worked Seisan and Sieunchin specifically trying to work in more hip rotation and power from that twist. Then we broke off into groups and drilled Seisan and Sieunchin. Feet only and hands only. Then I did it with my eyes closed. I did both kata back to back once too. Oh man, that’s a cardio buster for sure right there. Very full class tonight, lots of work. It felt great after a long sluggish weekend stuck indoors.

Kata: We worked basic kicks. I felt really good doing kicks tonight. I felt rested and stretched. +1 for not coming into class completely depleted.

Then we worked basic Kata together as one large group. Taigo 1, feet only then Taigo 1 hands and feet a few times. To get up a good sweat.

Then we grouped off and the group I was in worked on Seisan. We were largely working on teaching the Green Belts a good dose of it. It was great. Then we got to see some people from each of our teams perform their Kata on their own.

Thomas was called up to perform Giin. He did so great. He pretty much just learned half of it in that one class then went out and nailed it. So awesome and proud to be in class with him.

Fighting. Today’s noon class was all out. We showed up and saw an obstacle course setup with skills ladder and 5 bags pulled out. Hooyah!

We did 4 rounds of feet drills with the skills ladder then a set of different kick and punch combos on the bags, running between them. We did 2 final rounds that were the same except on the skills ladder we did pushups and a plyo-pushup hop to the next set – for every ladder rung… Hooyah!

Then we paired up and did several 1:30 rounds. Then a deadman drill of 3 rounds for 1:30 each. Pretty fun.

Then we were called into the center of the floor and drew a Kata card and did the Kata on the spot. I drew Too San and went for it. Then we did a game where we bet on each other’s ability to perform Pinan 1 in a chosen amount of time, the loser of the bet owed 30 push ups. I said 50 seconds and had Sempai attempt it. He beast-ed it out and I did the push ups…

Man what a fun class today. It had everything!

Teaching. Taught a youth class and an adult class today/tonight. The youth class was fighting. I mostly had them doing fitness and then footwork stuff. Then for the adults we did a good bit of fitness, with a focus on stamina and work capacity. Running + pushups. Then we did a lot of kata, back to back sort of style. Finishing up with the prowler 🙂

All in all, I REALLY enjoy this aspect of it all. Instruction is very rewarding.

Dojo: Sprint + Kata

5:30am Training. We did a shuttle drill, where we ran between 10 cones, about 10 yards apart. Then at each cone did an ascending ladder of push ups, burpees and sit ups. This thoroughly wrecked me…

Then we worked Kata; Konku, Seiunchin & Seisan
