We did kata in class today. Taigo 2 for about half a dozen times, really worked it. Felt great. Started to learn Tosan. It has a pretty tough pivot move in it that I need to work on. Very good class today.
Then later in the day after a decent rest, I did a “sweet” with a good friend. ~2 mile run with some “obstacles” mixed in; stairs, plyo jumps, burpees and wall climbs. Done in sets of 30, 20 & 10. Very tired after this workout today.
Today’s class was a practice on a single kata. Taigo 3. I had been contemplating doing a single private lesson class just for this kata. I’m sure I can still use it, but working on the single kata for an entire 45 minutes is great. I feel like I improved a good bit after today’s class however, I still have a lot of room for improvement as with any kata – the moment you think you can’t continue to learn and improve is the moment you’re done…
We had another outdoor training event today. 3 hours of full on work. We started with a 2.5 mile run which included sprints after each half mile. We then ran suicides over the width of a soccer field. Then we hit the prowler/sled, 90lbs + sled weight for 1/8 mile. Finished up by pairing up with another guy and pulling the same sled weight with 3 people sitting on it. We then did Karate, 4 sets of kata and then a session of synchronized kata. The day was finished up with 25 reps of hill climbs.
Very full day with lots of work. Totally painful when you’re in the process of doing it but 100% worth it when you’re done.
Tonight’s class we took a field trip to Sensei Earwood’s dojo. Which is where my Sensei trained under his Sensei. We’ve made the trip before and it’s always a very hard working, traditional approach type of evening. Tonight was no exception. I really enjoy the traditional aspect of how we train in our dojo. It makes me feel more connected with the Karate somehow.
I liked the pace we kept once we got going and I liked all of our conversation on top of it too. All in all a good all around Karate filled night.
