Kicks & Fighting. We started with a good warm up of jumping jacks, pus-ups, burpess and spin jumps and some stretching. Then did dead man drills for each student since we had a small class. Much fun!

Fighting. I lead fight class tonight. We started with some jumping jacks and did some leg work. Then did a push-up plank for about 20 push-ups. Then partnered off and did fight drills, building up to the defensive side kick. Then had volunteers on the floor for dead-man drills for 9, :20 rounds. Did that twice. Then for the last 15 minutes of class, we broke into two groups and did quick sudden death matches. Overall fell like it was a good night.

405 – Marty Knight – Fight Class

Went up to Anderson to visit Marty Knight’s school for a fighting class tonight. We rode up with Sensei and two others. Man, super fun night and class/workout. It really kept me engaged and got me thinking about how to structure a class as we’re gearing up for our first tournament. Will be programming next Tuesday’s class accordingly now.

I very much enjoyed being here and mixing it up with different people doing different things. They’re style is clearly more different than ours, but I have also incorporated as much as I can from Marty Knight in the classes i’m putting together. He has such a base and clean approach but it’s mixed with keeping your brain engaged. Love this.

I think the thing I loved most was the ride up and back, just hanging out with my Dojo family and being relaxed but still having it be about Karate. I love these people…

Noon class. Fight class. We had a small class, just 4 of us.

We did a new training drill, we’re calling “Battle Stations”… We setup 4 cones, you run from cone to cone (sprint) and dropping at each cone and doing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 pushups. Then run to the ring and face your partner, putting on your fight gear as quickly as you can and immediately sparring for 1:30

It’s awful… 🙂
