Brown & Blackbelt class. For the entire class we learned and practiced some new drills with the Sai. These are very cool and I was quite happy to have finally gotten to work on manipulating them a bit. Going to take some work for sure.

Weapons: We drilled basic kicks then went right into weapson. Bo 1 & 2 back to back to back, then with a 4 or 5 move to count version. We then broke off into pairs, with other students I’ve never really worked with much before, to do Tonfa. I learned a good bit just watching and working.
Double class: Brown + Blackbelt class. Drilled Weapons.
Bo strikes, Bo 1 and Bo 2.
Tonfa strikes, Tonfa 1
Then drilled Self Defense 2nd, 3rd, 4th sets.
Worked Giin
Started to learn Konku
Notes:
The first class was pretty standards, if not drill heavy. We got straight to work with no real exercise, which is fine with me. Most of us were at the same point save for a couple of Blue belts. It had clearly been a month since I had drilled weapons, the sweat was pouring 20 minutes in.
The second class we started off with a few rounds of drilling Self defense in the air for exercise, which is a cool way to warm up. If you’re drilling correctly it’s a great cardio start up. Then went into Giin, which is also great for stamina, especially this late in class. Konku is interesting, starting off with the sunrise and sunset metaphor.
Sempai was getting instructions for her Blackbelt test while we were in class. It looked to take the entire class as she and Sensei walked around the dojo making lists of things to do and clean. I have to admit I got a little nervous already just watching that. Also learned from Mr. Bouknight that Tuna makes a bad choice for food for your BB rank test.
Drilled Kata:
Started with Basic Kicks: Front, Half Round, Full Round, Side, Back – L & R
Basics/Kihon for 2-3 sets
Taigo 1, Taigo 2, Taigo 3, Pinan 1, Too San, Naihanchin, Giin.
Then drilled Bo 1 & Bo 2 & Tonfa 1.
Tonfa. We did the Tonfa strikes progression then broke off into small groups to do Tonfa 1 over and over. We broke it down into smaller movements and work it over and over again. Good night for Tonfa.
