Spartan Super
9 miles… Spartan Super up in Asheville, NC. This was easily one of the hardest races I’ve done so far. Rivaled only by the Paris Mnt. run a year or so ago.

Ran the first Spartan of the year. The Sprint in Atlanta. It wound up being 6 miles and 20(ish) obstacles. Long day. My elbows and knees are shredded.
Finished 02:02:19

Ran the Finlay Park “suite”. Only got in 2 rounds and 1/5 of the 3rd.
Must get more faster! 🙂
Ran the Spartan Beast this weekend. 12.5 miles and 25+ obstacles, finished it in 5:04:00. It was a long, tough, grueling run mixed with plenty of difficult obstacles that appear to have been designed to demoralize and beat you down.
My training served me well, all the miles and rucks and time in the gym. There were plenty of “skill” obstacles like the monkey bars, rope climb and traverse wall that me and my team helped each other through. However my endurance was high and never really cramped along the 12+ miles. When the strength obstacles were in front of me I just went right through them like they were not a big problem.
I saw many people struggle mightily and along the trail just doubled over in pain or sitting and trying to muster enough energy to leave. It felt great to be passing them by.
I still have a ton of work to do to be able to get through something like this on my own and within a shorter time.
Went to Concord NC today and ran in the Spartan Sprint with some buddies. It was a most epic day.
The race was supposed to be a 5k but ended up being 5 miles… big difference from 3.2 miles to 5! But we made it and while I was disappointed in certain aspects of my abilities I was most proud to find myself getting stronger as the race wore on. I felt as if I was building power instead of losing it.
Something like this really exposes weaknesses, I suppose it’s why I like being tested so much.
Aroo!
