Self Defense then Bokken.
First class was Self Defense. We drilled 1st, 2nd and 4th set. Then broke off and worked on Blasting Elbow for the remainder of class. Just worked on getting smooth and did a little hitting hard, but nothing too bad.
2nd class was Bokken, we drilled 1, 2, 3, & 4 then reworked on 5. That 2nd class really smoked me. My nervous system was taxed and I really got fatigued fast. Long night.

The third class was I think the most fun so far. I told them we’d be hitting the floor tonight and I think they were excited. After a review of prior work we did some Karate style self defense.
Big bonus was I had my son with me tonight. So cool.
One Arm Grab, Side Snake, Headlock (a couple of different techniques) and the leg pinch I picked up from a Blackbelt test week or so ago, then we did Throw.
I let them take me down, my son down and then they took each other down by taking turns on each form. I think they had fun and might be a little sore tomorrow too. 🙂

Self Defense class #2. I think they realize that i’m showing them ways to fight. Not just tricks to defend themselves with.
We reviewed last weeks material and extended the lesson on the SPEAR stance. Then started to think and learn how to weaponize the things we’ve learned so far by placing them in different situations and positions.
Did a quick “action is faster than reaction” thing with the toy gun, they were a little freaked out by the intro of the gun. But got past it I think…
I feel like I made my points and they learned. Their energy was low, I think some of them were fairly tired, but they soldiered through and worked well.
Looking forward to Class #3. We’re going to work on some takedowns.

First self defense class is in the books. I think it went over well.
It went faster than I thought, i’d prepared material that I thought would last the entire class but we went through it 3x faster than I thought. I worry I moved too fast. I’ll make sure and spend at least 1/3 of next class reviewing and refining what we did tonight.

Self Defense. We drilled first & second set as a big group. Then broke up and I worked on 3rd set with yellow belts. Then Blackbelts drilled Bokken. Came back together for another drill at the end and ended class.
