WARRIOR MINDSET

NEVER GIVE UP.   NEVER QUIT.   KAIZEN.

Spartan Beast

Ran the Spartan Beast this weekend. 12.5 miles and 25+ obstacles, finished it in 5:04:00. It was a long, tough, grueling run mixed with plenty of difficult obstacles that appear to have been designed to demoralize and beat you down.

My training served me well, all the miles and rucks and time in the gym. There were plenty of “skill” obstacles like the monkey bars, rope climb and traverse wall that me and my team helped each other through. However my endurance was high and never really cramped along the 12+ miles. When the strength obstacles were in front of me I just went right through them like they were not a big problem.

I saw many people struggle mightily and along the trail just doubled over in pain or sitting and trying to muster enough energy to leave. It felt great to be passing them by.

I still have a ton of work to do to be able to get through something like this on my own and within a shorter time.

Tunnels To Towers 5k

Ran a 5k with the family tonight. 5k “Tunnels to Towers” to honor military and first responders of 9/11. We did really well and Erik really killed it tonight.

12K Trail Run

Ran the “Make My Day” 12K today at Harbison State Forest. Wound up being closer to 8 miles than 7. It was very cold and the trails were as muddy as i’ve ever seen them – not to mention covered in snow.

It was probably one of the toughest physical things i’ve ever done. I didn’t quit and finished the race making my fastest times on the 5k and 10k distances.

Training

Attempted to run the Harbison “Make my Day” race course this morning. Got 6.5 miles out and feel great for the race next weekend. It was long and cold and i’m tired as heck now but it was really worth it.
