WARRIOR MINDSET

NEVER GIVE UP.   NEVER QUIT.   KAIZEN.

Day 100

Fitting that my 100th class is Fight Class. I love sparring and point fighting and just catching kicks. Love it.

Tonight we worked hard, did a lot of matches and had fun the entire time. Great class.

Day 98

Fight class tonight. Warmed up with jumping rope for about 10 minutes then went right into sparring. Sparred for several rounds in a row, continuous. I was tired of course, but never winded. I feel like my stamina is improving. I also think I did quite well in the matches tonight too. Excited after class tonight.

Day 97

We had a special fight class tonight. One of Sensei’s Blackbelt students (3rd degree) was a special guest tonight and he arranged a fight class out of schedule. Very fun night. Though I was very off and felt slow and rooted to the ground. I had my butt handed to me a couple of times from opponents I typically hold my own against. Next time i’ll be more focused.

Day 85

Fight Class: Sensei pulled a fast one on us, he scheduled another fight class in the same week. I loved it. I felt great and even when we were done felt like I could keep going, I fought straight through every round too.

At one point though, and i’m now a little embarrassed, I was a little too amped against a younger student. I’d never sparred with him before and honestly I was waiting for him to start doing more (i’ve been on the other side of the punching bag with him and he does hit pretty hard and fast…) but he was fairly static in his movements and I wound up kind of all over him. Sensei reminded me of having “tact” when we were sparring and I then realized what what up and switched into helping him and coaching more. I wish I would have caught on faster on my own, I can be pretty thick sometimes…

Day 75

Milestone. 75th class – celebrated by a hematoma to the eyebrow. Love it.

Great fight class tonight. We warmed up with 18 or so minutes of jumping rope which totally wore me out. Then went for 4 rounds of continuous sparring with different partners. Once we finished that we did some dead man drills, which Sensei put me in for the 2nd round of that. Man I was tired.

I’m also frustrated, not because of letting the head kick in. But because all day I thought about tonight’s class and was preparing in my mind what I was going to work on. I had some combos worked out that I wanted to drill during sparring and I had some specific types of defensive moves I wanted to focus on using. As soon as we started my plan flew out the window and I was just throwing punches and kicks. I need to figure out what that is that keeps me from focusing and fix it.
