Tonight I started Boken, training in Kendo. Very very cool. Samurai stuff – i’m very hyped to be doing this.
Then the second portion of class was Bo. Bo Kata #1 – I “kinda” worked through the entire thing. Mostly review and then watching and picking up what the others were doing.
Love the weapons portion of Karate.

Today was a special Bo to Bo Kumite seminar at the Dojo. 3 hours of learning a back and forth kata/fight between to attackers using the Bo staff. It was pretty great and honestly some of the most fun i’ve had in the Dojo to date. Not that normal karate isn’t good, this was just super fun because of the weapon work and all the other blackbelts who came to take part.

Bo kata today. Worked through the first half of “bo 1” today. Some of the most fun i’ve had in class since I started. Weapons are fun to learn and you feel very powerful using them in kata like that.
PS: I need work on my Horse Stance…

Weapon Kata today. Worked the Bo for an hour straight through the basic first few steps and it felt great. So much fun to work a weapon instead of empty hands.

Today was weapons. I picked up the Bo staff and began basic drills. My shoulders are pretty much mince-meat this evening. It was fun trying to imagine targeting someone’s head with the ends of the Bo as I went through drills.
Then hit the gym for 1.5 hours. Olympic lifting then some speed work on the focus mits. I was dead slow given it’s been almost 7 days since we did this last.
For now i’m worn the heck out for the day.
