20 Guiding Principles: 1
“Do not forget that Karate-Do begins and ends with Rei”
- Gichin Funakoshi
Bowing is something we do before each session of Karate. We bow to show Rei, which is true esteem for others as well as a level of self-respect. We separate ourselves on a higher plane by showing we have a sincere and reverent heart. We do this by showing Rei.
I will never forget my very first lesson which began by learning to show Rei properly. There is nothing quite as humbling as drilling a proper bow.
