This is a series of episodes where we explore a deep dive into a book that has changed my life. We will go chapter by chapter and review the things that make it work so well with hope that you will find inspiration to help you with your own journey.
I am usually accompanied by long-time friend, fellow SEALFitter and badass, Heather Bauer Dughaish @bmbrbauer (https://www.voteheatherbauer.com/). Along with her husband we all co-own a gym; Workhorse Fitness together in Columbia, South Carolina.
The Way of the SEAL by Mark Divine
Chapter 8: Think Offense, All The Time
This chapter is mostly about how to not be caught off guard. How to not be caught in a ‘defensive’ posture and to be the thinking offense most of the time.
Developing unwavering confidence
Sharpening your awareness
Doing the unexpected
Leading with rapid execution
Destiny can strike at anytime, anywhere. How to develop a winning attitude and become an offensive-oriented leader.
How to avoid “mental traps”
Some common ones:
Avoid things you doubt, rather than investigate them.
Feel you owe something to people who give you something.
Believe that if something is good for someone you know, then it must be good for you, too.
Wait for social proof before acting.
Cling to things once you have them.
Inflate the value or veracity of authority figures’ ideas, thoughts and decisions.
There really is a ton here in this chapter. Too much for an hour long episode to cover really.
Mark has been doing something on his youtube channel called “the daily brief”. I find them super helpful to get me in the mindset I need to be each day he drops one. Some serious knowledge bombs on these. He recently did one on “Looking inward” the core idea is that you are what you think/believe. So focus on positive things, build excellence habits and get after it daily.
